Thundercat in The Night of the Unexpected

Night of the Unexpected: 8 september Tivoli Utrecht, 9 september Paradiso Amsterdam, 10 september Muziekgebouw Eindhoven. Met: Thundercat. Zijn door Flying Lotus geproduceerde debuut – The Golden Age of Apocalypse – komt pas daags voor The Night uit (29 augustus op Brainfeeder), maar online zijn er hier en daar al tracks te beluisteren. Naar eigen zeggen gaat Thundercat – alias voor Suicidal Tendencies’ bassist Stephen Bruner – verder met het destilleren van het jazzlandschap van Flying Lotus. Bruner speelde bas op Lotus’ Cosmogramma, en leverde bijdragen aan albums van een indrukwekkende lijst aan musici, waaronder Erykah Badu en pianist Austin Peralta. Thundercat laat zich (volgens Thundercat) het best omschrijven als een combinatie tussen ‘classic jazz fusion, futurist electronic strains and timeless musical seeking’.
